Biometric Local Area Network Control Center (BioLANCC)

The use of biometric data for access control, e.g., fingerprint scans, offers a simplification for room access control or a key-management function. A detailed cost analysis of existing systems shows that in addition to specific security requirements, the loss of physical keys or magnetic access cards may increase the overall costs dramatically. A large employee turnover, a large number of access points, such as doors and gates, and various user- as well as key-groups worsens the situation. A biometric data management approach solves these problems and, additionally, ensures that keys could not be passed on to different personnel.

Project Overview

The research cooperation project "Biometric Access Control" performed between the ITIS e.V., located at the University of Federal Armed Forces Munich, Germany, the University of Zurich, Communication Systems Group CSG, Switzerland, and the Biometronix GmbH Munich, Germany, has researched and developed a new, platform-independent, flexible, and TCP/IP-based Biometric Local Area Network Control Center (BioLANCC) in support of access-control systems as well as single sign-on solutions.

The BioLANCC flyer (PDF, 235 KB) summarizes the key BioLANCC capabilities.

BioLANCC at SYSTEMS 2006 (http://www.systems-world.de/)
CSG has presented a working prototype as well as a productive version of BioLANCC to the interested public at SYSTEMS 2006 in Munich, Germany.
