Inosuisse Funds Cooperation between the University of Zurich and Livealytics

Measuring the public interest in a particular product or service is highly important for the strategic planning of businesses. Today Livealytics and the Communication Systems Group CSG at the University of Zurich UZH announce a research collaboration, titled “PasWITS – Passive Wireless Intelligence Tracking System”, to improve the passive capture of signals emitted by portable devices and the analysis and prediction of exhibitions based on previous records of events and respective audiences. This collaboration is being funded by Innosuisse, the Swiss innovation agency. It covers a number of research and engineering challenges, including:

- Broadening the scope of signal detection, for example, by analyzing Bluetooth protocols.
- Applying machine learning, for example, for predictive models.
- Developing and implementing approaches to distinguish devices using MAC randomization.

Based on this work, it is planned to introduce as outcome of PasWITS further benchmarks and KPIs, more fine-grained analysis tools, better real-time data processing, a more versatile and robust sensor, and tools to predict outcomes.
