Transparent Caching of YouTube videos

VA
State: completed by Felix Kieber
Published: 2014-03-26

YouTube videos are responsible for a large portion of Internet traffic. For a european project researching new traffic management mechanism we would like to start caching these videos. The student will investigate how YouTube vides can be cached without a user noticing (transparently) the cache must be easily accessible unlike a typical HTTP cache like Squid. To complete this thesis, skills in Linux (iptables) and networking in general are required as well as skills in a programming language (Java). A prototype is written in Java.

30% Design, 50% Implementation, 20% Documentation
Linux skills, networking skills, programming skills (preferably Java)
